Copper Wires – The Most Preferred Choice

When it comes to electrical wiring, copper wires are one of the most preferred choices. The main reason for this is probably the fact that copper has one of the best electrical conductivity. The high electric conductivity of copper lets electricity pass through, without producing much heat. Copper wires act as raw material and are widely used in cable industries for manufacturing varied kinds of wires. Tinsel wire, copper strip, control cable and submersible winding wire are some of the electrical cables drawn from copper.  Iron is another metal that is used in the manufacture of power cables. PVC insulated wire and PVC coated wire are some of the most well known plastic forms that are used for the coating of electrical wires. These coating are retardant to fire and have excellent properties of insulation.

Advantages:

Wires drawn from iron and copper are very popular in both commercial and residential wiring.

    1. Electrical conductivity: Copper has that extra edge over other metals because of the fact that it has high resistance and can withstand lots of metal exhaustion.

    1. Malleability and ductility: Malleability helps in drawing copper wires into any size and shape and that too in a very convenient manner. Copper is highly ductile as well which means that it can be stretched a lot without it being weakening or breaking. This property is very important from the view of drawing metals into wires.

    1. Durability: Copper wire also has the durability that would allow it to stand all sorts of climatic conditions right from extreme cold to extreme heat.

    1. Favorable Chemical Properties: The chemical properties make it more than an ideal metal which can be used for electrical wires.  Its positive chemical properties make it much more resistant to abrasion and don’t let it corrode very rapidly.

    1. Temperature Tolerance: Electrical wires are used for taking current from one location to another. So, when high voltage passes through the wire, the wire may get sufficiently heated up. Not all wires can withstand sudden rise in temperatures, but the copper wire has this ability. This property also makes the copper wires much more long-lasting.

    1. Global Standard: Copper wires are used round the globe and they are used for electrical conduction widely.

    1. Abundant Quantity: copper is found in abundance in the earth’s crust and it is estimated that we have enough for the next five million years.

Forms of Copper Wires

Copper wire is mostly used in the braided form. The braided copper wire is often used in storage batteries, electrical appliances and electric stoves as flexible connectors. These are made up of high quality copper wires which are braided together into multiple threads like structures. The electrical resistivity of braided copper wire is low. The copper strips mostly find usage in enhancing the production and reducing the wastage of electric current. These strips are highly resistant to corrosion as well. Copper strip manufacturers provide customized copper strips in accordance to the specifications and demands of the clients. Bare copper strips are further useful and are widely used as a raw material for a lot of industries.
